Heatwave Crime Prevention/Safety Advice |
Hello all,
The Met Office has issued an amber extreme heat warning for parts of Southern and Eastern England including some of North-East Lincolnshire. The warning is valid for Monday and Tuesday and warns of temperatures peaking at 35C. The nights will also be hot, remaining above 20C in some locations. The developing heatwave is likely to have widespread impacts on people and infrastructure. It brings the risk of impacts to health, especially for vulnerable people, and the danger of sunburn and heat exhaustion in the wider population and people travelling to the coasts, lakes and rivers are being warned to stay safe in and around water.
As the weather gets better over half term into the summer, we’d to remind residents of simple crime prevention tips that are often forgotten in sunny weather but can also make you vulnerable to theft: Always close and lock your doors and windows, even if you’re just going into your back garden as you may not hear someone coming through an open window or door at the front. Make sure any valuables are left out of sight in your house and shed. Keep keys, money and bags away from the letterbox or cat flaps as thieves can hook valuables through small spaces. Lock sheds and garages, preferably not using a lock that burglars could use a screwdriver to open. Lock your bike inside a secure shed or garage, or to a robust fitting bolted to the ground or wall. If out in the evening or overnight, shut curtains and use a timer to automatically turn lights on at night. Don’t advertise that you are away from home on social media- this could tell a burglar that you’re not home. If you see anything suspicious in your area please contact 999 or 101 to report this to Police. If you see somebody in difficulty in the Sea, Rivers or Lakes contact 999 immediately and ask for Coastguard or Fire & Rescue in the first instance. The Police will always support our partner services but do not always have the best equipment or skills required. Thank you, Humberside Police. | ||
